Instructions for setting up google authenticator and for properly authenticating in the network
In order to access the internet from TEK-UP you will need to authenticate by following the procedure described here. Please follow these steps:
Setting up google authenticator:
- Install Google Authenticator on your phone from this link.
- Open the Google Authenticator app and follow the “get started” wizard.
- Click the add button to configure your OTP (One Time Password).
- Choose the “Enter a setup key” option.
- Enter the account name (This does not need to match your username).
- Enter the key (This is the secret key sent to you individually in SMS and it should not be shared with anyone).
- Leave the type of key unchanged (Time based).
- Click add to confirm your OTP configuration.
Adding TEK-UP Certificate to Your OS Trust Store:
Upon completion of the following steps, your device’s browsers will trust the “login.tekup” website only when it presents a certificate signed by TEK-UP CA. This serves as a security measure to prevent unauthorized access and phishing attempts.
It’s crucial to avoid adding certificates from untrusted sources to your trust store.
Note: These steps are specific to a Windows PC. Similar steps may be required for different operating systems.
- Download this certificate on the PC to be used to access TEK-UP network.
- Double-click the certificate.
- If a security warning appears, click ‘Open’.
- Click “Install Certificate”.
- Choose “Current User” if this user is solely for network access, or “Local Machine” otherwise, then click Next.
- Click “Place all certificates in the following store”, then click ‘Browse’.
- Choose “Trusted Root Certification Authorities”, click OK, then click Next.
- Click Finish, OK in the pop-up window, and OK to close the certificate window.
Once the captive portal is enabled in the network, any attempt to access a website will redirect you to the login page where you will need to provide your user name and password in order to be granted access to the network:
Before entering your credentials, first make sure that the domain in the URL is exactly “login.tekup” as shown below:
Second, make sure that your connection to the website “login.tekup” is secure:
- The username to be used is communicated individually in SMS
- The password to be used is the PIN that you will receive in SMS followed by the OTP from your google authenticator app. (e.g. if your PIN is 1234 and the OTP on your google authenticator is 999000, you will provide the password 1234999000)
Please note that some websites like google.com use HSTS and thus the redirection to the portal login page will fail when accessing these websites. In order to be correctly redirected to the login page, try accessing a plain http website like http://www.http2demo.io/ or an https website that does not use HSTS like https://tek-up.de/
P.S:
- You can use your account to login with one device at a time. Logging in on one device will immediately log you out of the previous one.
- Your account is subject to a 3GB data quota (download and upload) per week.
For any technical problem, please contact Mr. Haider or Mr. Haythem.
If you didn’t receive an SMS containing your credentials, please contact Mrs Olfa.
